The Distant Planets

Learning Astrology

It is time to explore the energy of some further distant planets and the much smaller ones. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Ceres are the minor planets in astrology. Some astronomers consider Ceres and Pluto as ‘dwarf’ planets, as they are so small. While some other astronomers state that Pluto is not even a planet at all. There are some criteria that astronomers have set up to recognize and regulate what should be called a planet. In Western modern astrology, these minor planets have a significant impact in chart readings. However, in traditional astrology they were never really acknowledged in bygone days.

Today these planets may deserve some thoughtful consideration. Uranus is said to be the second ruler of the zodiac sign Aquarius, with Saturn being the original prime ruler of Aquarius. Being influenced by Uranus, will impact your character to be more unpredictable, unconventional and highly attracted to electronics and yet sensitive to electronic energy. Uranus rules electricity. Indeed, Uranus is the planet signifying electricity and abrupt sudden changes and accidents.

Imagine playing golf and suddenly a storm begins to brew with lightening. It seems it is approaching the golf course out of the blue. Perhaps you feel safe and take your time to walk to the club house. Then abruptly a jolt of bright lightning strikes you and it is so powerful to be almost fatal or indeed fatal. This would be an Uranus type of event. Uranus’s finger prints would be all over such a scene, so to speak. Anyone with a strong Uranus influence gives the air of being highly independent yet weird or quite odd. Such a person will have an unconventional mind that thinks right of the box and seems to enjoy breaking rules, while displaying a desire to learn and experiment. Uranus is very noticeable as he is so out of the ordinary. This is much unlike Neptune.

Neptune can glide right past you in a haze of sea mist. Neptune rules the under waters of the oceans and seas. Neptune is the second co-ruler of Pisces, with Jupiter being the original prime ruler of Pisces. Neptune is dreamy and somewhat vague with an air of depth. The oceans go deep down and anyone with a Neptune influence will feel things way more deeply than others. Neptune rules substances such as homeopathy and alcohol. With the energy of Neptune things are less clear and obvious. With Neptune’s energy around, it is like living in a fog or ambiance of mist. You know there is some great scenery out there, yet it is not that clear to you. You struggle to see that far ahead and you ought to be wearier of your surroundings, as things seem uncertain.

This is a gift in a way though, as Neptune enables you to be more receptive to stimuli. It is in this way that you are able to perceive great depths of feeling and energy. Anyone with a strong Neptune influence may be more psychic, prone to substance abuse or just more deeply affected by stimuli. Neptune energy ensures you are highly sensitive to alcohol and drugs and medicine. So always in such cases, begin using these substances with the lowest doses. Neptune’s energy is vast like the ocean and yet so deep that you never are able to fully appreciate its magnitude. Neptune may also be aligned with the pure form of spiritual love energy. It is expansive and all-encompassing, while having been so little experienced and explored among us all. Neptune also rules the dreams we have. For the best dreams, we must often shut our eyes to create darkness. This darkness enables you to create and access many different worlds in the dream state. Pluto could be aligned with the darkness that is backstage of our life.

Pluto rules the underground with its great dark depths that may evoke fear. While Neptune is mysterious, Pluto is darkly mysterious. Pluto is harder to fathom and it also brings connotations of death and poisons.  Pluto rules things like chemotherapy and complicated murder mysterious. Pluto is deeply psychological as he is an entangled deep web of uncharted aspects of consciousness. Pluto is the second co-ruler of Scorpio, while Mars is the original prime ruler of Scorpio. Great transformations, especially deep ones that affect your psych are linked to Pluto. These transformations often can be quite healing and liberating. Pluto is something that not all of us are ready to face as he will need you to confront your deepest fears. In mythology, we have Ceres who brokered a deal with Pluto!

Ceres represents the possibilities when we face our fears! Ceres shows that she can bring an energy of compromise or resolution. Ceres is richly linked to agriculture. Anyone with a strong influence of Ceres is inclined to feel more in balance with Nature. Ceres wants to nurture and protect us in a balanced way! She ensures we have food and love, while honouring all forms of life. She cherishes all around her and shows us the basics that Mother Earth has to offer us. Ceres is a planet that knows hardship and loss, yet she enables us to know hope and nurturing love to all in her presence.

Talking of hope, I hope this introductory article on the minor planets has been helpful. There is much to explore among these minor plants. We have much to explore, yet let’s begin with knowing ourselves first.
